Carl Cappa Memorial Classic

August 16, 2010

The Carl Cappa Memorial Classic was established in 1997. Carl was the President, Owner and Chief Executive Officer of Crawford Furniture Manufacturing Corp., and he also served as the Chair of TRC Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Held at beautiful Moon Brook Country Club each August, the Cappa Memorial Classic has became the most prestigious and successful one-day charity golf tournament in Southwestern New York. Following the tournament, area Special Olympics athletes take part in a putting contest.

Carl passed away in 2001, but the tournament that bears his name lives on. With the support of Carl’s wife, Catherine, and his family and friends, the Cappa Classic remains a prominent fixture among area golf tournaments. Carl’s son, Michael, assumed his father’s role as Honorary Chair of the tournament’s Steering Committee, and under his leadership the Carl Cappa Memorial Classic continues to thrive. The legacy of the Cappa Classic also has passed to the next generation of the Cappa family, as Mike’s sons, Brett and Scott, also serve on the tournament’s Steering Committee.

Over the years, the Cappa Classic has netted more than $1 million. The tournament’s financial success is a testament to the admiration and respect that people feel toward Carl and the entire Cappa family. Thanks to the success of the Carl Cappa Memorial Classic, TRC Foundation’s endowment today stands at more than $1.5 million. This has enabled the organization to award grants to support individuals with disabling conditions and their families in Chautauqua County.
