Look Good Fund

Sometimes, a little help can go a long way toward improving the life of a person with a disabling condition. That was the motivating force behind Margaret Look’s decision to create the Look Good Fund. A former member of The Resource Center’s Board of Directors who has a son with a disability, Margaret knows firsthand the challenges faced by people with disabilities as they strive for success and acceptance.

Through the Look Good Fund, money is available for individuals with disabilities to enhance their personal appearance, acquire new clothes or obtain items needed on an urgent basis. This includes transportation – because Chautauqua County is a rural region with limited public transportation options, many people with disabilities have difficulty getting to and from work, medical appointments and social/recreational outings. Through the Look Good Fund, people with disabilities can receive transportation vouchers to redeem for taxi rides, thus giving them greater access to their community.

The fund has done wonders: more than 70 people benefited from the fund last year. But additional assistance always is needed – money for the transportation voucher program typically begins to run low in the fall, meaning that access to the vouchers must be restricted.
