Jamestown Gus Macker Basketball Tournament
June 6-7, 2010
The first weekend in June, downtown Jamestown is transformed into basketball heaven as more than 500 teams gather for the annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.
The event takes place over three days. Friday’s activities are highlighted by the Sponsors Tournament, in which businesses that support the “Macker” contest against one another. The main tournament takes place Saturday and Sunday on some three dozen courts, with teams vying to be crowned champions of their court. The event draws thousands of spectators for what truly is a basketball festival. And with a variety of vendors on hand, there is plenty to interest non-basketball fans as well.
The tournament also features an exhibition of basketball skills by area Special Olympians as they prepare for Statewide competition, and the ever-popular Slam Dunk Contest, in which contestants pull out all the stops in an effort to impress the judges with their gravity-defying maneuvers.
Money raised from the Macker supports individuals with disabling conditions and their families.
